Background of the Study
Moral education plays an influential role in shaping the ethical perspectives and social responsibilities of students. In Kaduna South LGA, where community engagement and social solidarity are highly valued, moral education is integrated into the school curriculum with the aim of fostering altruism and a willingness to support charitable activities. Through classroom discussions, experiential learning, and value-based instruction, schools strive to develop a sense of empathy and civic responsibility among learners (Abubakar, 2023). In particular, moral education seeks to counterbalance the rising individualistic tendencies that have emerged in modern society by reemphasizing the importance of collective well-being and humanitarian values. Research indicates that when students are exposed to structured moral education, they tend to exhibit a greater propensity for volunteerism and charitable support (Nwankwo, 2024). Furthermore, the infusion of moral values into educational programs not only cultivates a compassionate outlook but also equips students with the critical ability to discern social injustices and respond with appropriate charitable initiatives. In Kaduna South LGA, the socio-cultural context is unique in that communal bonds and mutual support are integral to the local identity. However, rapid modernization and external cultural influences have begun to challenge these traditional values, creating a tension that moral education aims to resolve (Suleiman, 2025). Educators emphasize the practical application of moral lessons through community service projects, charity drives, and involvement in local philanthropic activities, thereby creating experiential learning opportunities that reinforce theoretical principles. The evolving educational landscape necessitates a continuous evaluation of moral education strategies to ensure that they remain relevant and effective in promoting social responsibility. By situating the study within the local context, this research will investigate how moral education influences students’ willingness to engage in charitable activities, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the current approach. Emphasis is placed on the dynamic interplay between cultural traditions, educational practices, and external influences that together shape student attitudes. Ultimately, the study will contribute to the broader discourse on how education can serve as a catalyst for social change and community development by fostering a culture of generosity and mutual support (Abubakar, 2023; Nwankwo, 2024; Suleiman, 2025).

Statement of the Problem
Despite the acknowledged benefits of moral education in nurturing social responsibility, there is growing concern regarding its impact on students’ willingness to support charitable activities in Kaduna South LGA. Although the curriculum is designed to promote empathy, altruism, and civic duty, preliminary observations suggest that many students remain indifferent or only superficially engaged in charitable endeavors. This apparent disconnect raises critical questions about the effectiveness of the moral education framework in translating ethical principles into practical community support (Nwankwo, 2024). Contributing factors may include an overemphasis on theoretical instruction, inadequate practical exposure, and external socio-economic pressures that divert students’ attention from community service. Additionally, there is limited research focusing specifically on the linkage between moral education and active charitable involvement among secondary school students in the region (Suleiman, 2025). The gap between the intended outcomes of moral education and the actual behavior of students manifests in sporadic and unsustained charitable activities, which may compromise the development of a robust culture of volunteerism. Furthermore, the rapid social changes and the influence of global cultural trends might be undermining traditional communal values, thereby diminishing the effectiveness of moral education programs (Abubakar, 2023). This study seeks to address these concerns by systematically evaluating the current moral education strategies and their influence on students’ charitable behaviors. It aims to identify key challenges that hinder the practical application of ethical teachings and propose adjustments that could enhance student engagement in community service. The ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between moral theory and practice, thereby fostering a more vibrant and consistent culture of charity and social responsibility in Kaduna South LGA.

Objectives of the Study

  • To evaluate the impact of moral education on students’ willingness to engage in charitable activities.

  • To identify the factors within the curriculum that encourage active community service.

  • To assess the role of experiential learning in enhancing charitable involvement among students.

Research Questions

  • How does moral education influence students’ willingness to support charitable activities?

  • What curricular components most effectively motivate community service?

  • How does experiential learning contribute to sustained charitable involvement?

Research Hypotheses

  • H1: Moral education significantly increases students’ willingness to participate in charitable activities.

  • H2: Curricular elements emphasizing practical community engagement positively affect charitable involvement.

  • H3: Experiential learning methods enhance students’ active participation in charity.

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it provides valuable insights into the role of moral education in shaping students’ attitudes toward charitable activities. The findings will inform educators and policymakers about effective strategies to promote community service among students. By bridging the gap between theoretical ethical instruction and practical application, the research contributes to the development of educational practices that foster social responsibility. The study is expected to encourage a culture of volunteerism and active civic engagement, thereby enhancing both the educational experience and community development in Kaduna South LGA.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study is limited to examining the effect of moral education on students’ willingness to support charitable activities within secondary schools in Kaduna South LGA, Kaduna State. The research focuses exclusively on this educational context and does not extend to other regions or educational levels.
